Andrew Hines Top Qualifier at Summit Nationals

Andrew Hines led the qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. Hines’ Screamin' Eagle / Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson V-Rod ran a 6.944 second E.T. at 192.28 MPH to take the top qualifying spot during the final qualifying session on Saturday. The 6.944 E.T. set a new track record for elapsed time. Hines will face off against Mike Berry in the first round of eliminations on Sunday.

Fast Qualifying Field at the Southern Nationals in Commerce, Georgia

Andrew Hines set a track record during Friday’s Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 29th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals in Commerce, Georgia. Hines’ first qualifying run on the Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines V-Rod was a 7.008 second elapsed time at 190.65 MPH, putting him sixth in the field. During Firday’s second qualifying session, Hines ran an impressive 6.877 E.T. at 195.03 MPH, which set a track record and gave him the number one spot.

The Friday qualifying sessions were fast, with the top 13 riders running sub-seven second elapsed times. PSM champion Eddie Krawiec wasn’t far behind Hines, as his Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines V-Rod was the second fastest entry with a 6.881 E.T. at 194.49 MPH.

Douglas Horne and his Horne Racing Buell was seventh in Friday’s qualifying with a 6.934 E.T. at 193.57 MPH. Other notable qualifiers were Wesley Wells and his Kendall Suzuki, qualifying 11th and Michael Phillips qualifying twelfth on his MPR & Damn Sport Suzuki with a 6.995 second E.T. at 195.08 MPH. Steve Johnson was just outside of the qualifying on Friday with a 6.996 E.T. at 189.34 MPH, which was thirteenth fastest.

Qualifying continues on Saturday and will be televised on ESPN2 the same day (April 18th) from 6:00 to 8:00 PM EST.

Steve Johnson Wins the 54th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals

Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Steve Johnson rode his Snap-On Tools Suzuki to victory at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 54th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana. Johnson beat Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle winner Andrew Hines in the final round with a 7.034 second E.T. at 189.79 MPH, to Hines’ 7.063 second E.T. at 187.63 MPH. Hines’ 0.009-second reaction time was better than Johnson’s 0.030-second reaction, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the speed difference at the end.

Several of the Suzuki riders have finally found the horsepower they need to be competitive with the V-twin Harley-Davidsons and Buells, as evidenced by three of four semi-finalists were on Suzukis. Steve Johnson’s Snap-On Suzuki dispatched Craig Treble’s Albrecht's Fast Track Suzuki in the semi-final, with his 7.106 E.T. at 185.18 MPH. to Treble’s 7.171 E.T. at 182.53 MPH. This was Treble’s first race after joining the Don Schumacher Racing team two weeks ago. Mike Berry’s M B Precision Machining Suzuki also made it to he semi-final round. Berry’s 0.017-second reaction time couldn’t make up for his 7.202 E.T. at 181.81 MPH against the 7.112 E.T. at 185.56 MPH run by Hines and his V-ROD.

ESPN2 will broadcast the eliminations round from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM ET on September 1st and will replay the eliminations at 2:00 AM to 4:00:00 AM ET on 09/05/2008.

Eddie Krawiec wins the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle

In a Harley-Davidson versus Harley-Davidson final round, Eddie Krawiec defeated Andrew Hines to win the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle. The Battle was held Saturday during the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 54th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle gives the top eight riders in Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle Points earned during the season a chance to race for the $25,000 first place prize, from a total purse of $76,000.

Angelle Sampey’s bike broke at the line when the bike had a clutch issue that kept her from holding the bike still, handing the first round win to Kraweic. Krawiec’s teammate Andrew Hines defeated Karen Stoffer in the first round. Kraweic got another break when Chip Ellis took a red light during the second round of the battle. Andrew Hines defeated Matt Smith to get in the final round against his teammate.

The final round match-up of both Vance & Hines Screamin' Eagle Harley Davidson V-RODs was decided as soon as it began. Andrews Hines’ reaction time of -0.011 seconds tripped the red light and gave Krawiec the $25,000 prize and trophy. Hines' day didn’t end too bad though, he gets to walk away with a $10,000 runner-up prize.

Chris Rivas & Matt Smith fastest in Friday qualifying at Brainerd

Chris Rivas was the fastest rider in both qualifying sessions on Friday at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota. Rivas ran a 6.992 second E.T. on his Drag Specialties / S&S / G2 Buell during the first qualifying session. In the second round of qualifying, he backed up the first run with an even quicker 6.979 second E.T at 190.00 MPH. Chris Rivas currently sits 4th in the points standings with 569 points, 193 points behind points leader Andrew Hines.

Matt Smith was also fast and consistent in the Friday qualifying sessions. His NitroFish / Torco Buell ran a 6.997 second E.T. in the first round, followed by a 6.985 second E.T. at 188.94 MPH in the second round. Smith is currently second in points with 689, which is 76 points behind the leader.

Hector Arana qualified third in both sessions, locking up Buell's hold on top three slots. Andrews Hines took the 4th slot in both qualifying rounds on his V-Rod.

Qualifying will be shown on ESPN 2, August 9th from 8:30 P.M.-10:30 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, with eliminations broadcast on Sunday August 10 from 7:00 P.M.-10:00 P.M. EST.

Guidera wins at Sonoma

Matt Guidera defeated Andrew Hines in the final round of the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals in Sonoma, CA. Guidera on his Rocklin Motorsports Buell ran 7.054 E.T. at 185.74 MPH with a reaction time of 0.018 seconds, defeating Andrew Hines' time 7.026 E.T. at 187.34 MPH with a 0.050 seconds. Guidera's reaction times were fast throughout the weekend.

Eddie Krawiec takes top qualifying spot at Mile-High Nationals

Eddie Krawiec takes top qualifying spot in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 29th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, Colorado. Krawiec took the top spot by riding his Screamin' Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson V-Rod to a 7.328 second elapsed time at 1818.74 MPH. Krawiec's teammate, Andrew Hines, qualified fourth with a 7.332 second E.T. at 182.23 MPH.

Many competitors struggled to adjust to the thiner atmosphere in Denver, but the full field qualified for Sunday's race. Ryan Schnitz qualified his Team Muzzy Kawasaki sixteenth and will face Krawiec in the first round.

Another notable entry is the long awaited return of Peggy Llewellyn on a Rocklin Motorsports Buell. In Peggy's first race weekend since finishing fourth in championship points during the 2007 season, she ran a 7.509 second E.T. at 178.42 MPH qualifying fifteenth in the field. Peggy will face-off against Chip Ellis on Sunday. Welcome back Peggy!

Eddie Krawiec earns Top Qualifier at Norwalk

Eddie Krawiec rode his Screamin' Eagle / Vance & Hines Harley Davidson to his first number one qualifying position at the 2nd annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals today. Krawiec ran a 7.011 second E.T. at 191.02 MPH in Saturday's final qualifying session, amid close competition in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying field. Krawiec's teammate, Andrew Hines was second fastest in qualifying with a 7.045 second E.T. at 191.21 MPH. The only entry with a DNQ was Brian DeLong.

The event was plagued with water issues. On Friday, qualifying was cancelled after the first PSM round when water began seeping out of the track near the finish line. The Norwalk area has had more than a foot of rain in the last week and the water percolates to the surface has the day warms up. Track officials worked for over five hours to dry the track before giving up. Saturday qualifying was put on hold twice due to rain, but the track workers were able to dry the track and complete the scheduled sessions.

ESPN2 will broadcast qualifying from 10:00:00 PM to 12:00:00 AM ET on June 28, and final elimination rounds will air from 7:00:00 PM - 10:00:00 PM ET on June 29th, and again at 3:00:00 AM - 5:00:00 AM ET on July 4th.
